The Japanese Government has contingency plans to deal with a ballistic missile launch by North Korea, a possible step in the worsening nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula.

News of the plans came as the United States Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, warned in Germany on Saturday that North Korea was on the verge of producing enough plutonium to make six to eight additional nuclear weapons by mid-year.
